People ask why anyone stays here. The winters are long. The roads can be rough. The nearest anything is usually farther away than you'd like. And yet people stay. Not because it's easy. Because it feels real. There are places designed to impress visitors. And there are places designed to become home. The Northeast Kingdom has never tried very hard to be the first one. I've spent enough mornings walking with dogs to know they understand something people often forget. They don't worry about getting somewhere. They're interested in what's happening right now. The woods don't care how busy you are. They don't care about deadlines, politics, or how many unread emails are waiting when you get back. They just keep doing what they've always done. Growing. Changing. Waiting. Every walk seems to end with the same reminder: Most things don't need to happen as fast as we think they do. Enjoying a little time in the Vermont woods?
